I just "updated" to an iphone 8 and the iTunes in my Mac Pro (3,1; 2008) now whines:
To use your iPhone with iTunes, you need to install OS X 10.11.4 (or later).
My even older Mac Pro is running 10.10.5 and Software Update doesn't give an option for an upgrade to 10.11.4. That's the highest OS (so "or later" isn't possible) this Mac Pro is capable of running (even then, with a few features not possible).[/i]
What can I do--just bite the torpedo and upgrade to a later model Mac Pro?
I have "apple music" running on my iPad, Macbook Pro and iPhone and am not sure the actual iTunes app is needed anymore. The iTunes library is now part of the Apple Music app.
Ben, I'm in a somewhat similar situation, on a 2011 MacBook Pro running High Sierra, MacOS 10.13, as high as it will go, and just learned that the newest Lightroom won't run on anything prior to Mojave.
I'm probably moving to a 2020 iMac, they put some serious power in that new model.
Another great option is the 2018 Mac Mini.
Sometimes you have little choice but to bite the bullet!
