Identify Steel Player, Band and Venue

Post by Dave Sichak »

Good afternoon,

It's long puzzled me who the steel player was in a photo I have - he appears to be the leader of the band. It looks like it is at a ballroom of some sorts. The guy looks familiar, but sometimes my mind just doesn't click.

Anybody shed light on who this is and where it might have been taken?

Cheers,

I tend to think that it is Bud Isaacs as Ron noted. But this may be before he started getting known for his work on the pedal steel guitar. Wiki says he got his first version of a pedal steel around 1944 - a Gibson "Electraharp" - and he got his first twin neck pedal steel from Bigsby in 1952. He created a pedal that would change the pitch of TWO strings at the same time. It was interesting in my reading that he was trying to simulate the sound of two fiddles playing around that time. I'm trying to see if I can document who was in his band. Which may help in dating the photo.
